I've been wanting to see a two-tone on the stock wheels where the center of the spokes are one color, but the curved edges are another, if that makes sense.
Several powdercoating sites have demonstrations of masking areas, so this should definitely be achievable. Anyone care to try and photoshop this?

Searching around, it seems that several places have done gradient powder-coating to transition between two different colors. Some state that it can be done relatively easily, but I'm fairly sure that there's a big difference between a single transition on a pipe and a consistent transition across five (effectively ten) spokes.

Currently I'm leaning toward the chrome-center/black outside scheme.
I'm going to run a picture by a local place and see whether they are capable of taking it on.

Sort of, but the 18s look a bit different and I was picturing it with black and a color

Do you mean the flat part of the spoke in black and the part I have red in a different color? If not this, then perhaps you could hand draw a sketch of a spoke and indicate what color(s) you are thinking of and where you would like them. I would like to try to do this, so I could get different ideas. My wheels are 19s, it is an rspec.

I'm thinking about doing something with my stock 18's. I'm not really a fan of the super bright silver painted look. I was thinking something along the lines of a polished/gunmetal metallic combo.

Anyone knows if the stockers can be polished to shiny metal look?

Default No powder, but definitely POWER!

In the spirit of "finishing what I started":

Most of the painters I approached wouldn't touch the idea of doing anything creative. They wanted basic jobs that they could crank out.

On suggestion of my LMS, I took my ideas to Skip's Wheel Werks in Beaverton (www.skipswheelworks.com )
Skip did a great job in thinking through the problem, He painted the wheel black, then used a light application of ghost-chrome to effect a gradient fade. The fade continues outward, such that al lof the wheel has a bit of it, but it is a definitive fade from dark-silvered center to metallic black outer edge. It has quite different reflections than what there'd be from a full hyperblack wheel. The pictures don't completely do it justice:

BTW, this is airbrush-applied/clear coated, NOT powder-coated. So it's closure for the thread, but not for those who were hoping to see a P-C solution.

I'm really pleased: It wasn't exactly what I originally envisioned, but the final results are one of a kind.

Gotta be honest, it just looks black to me, but maybe it's the pic quality?

Yeah, the reflections don't show well in the photo. I posted the spinning one to show the chrome center.
