well, cameras actually cannot pick up a true red only close to it. And pics in the middle of a clear bright day, even worse. All of those pics are overexposed too. If the car was in the shade or it was later in the day, the red would look more like the 3rd pic.

Red is a PITA color to photo, you need to adjust for it. It is an awesome color in person.

Plus anyone relize how unphotogenic that shade of red is? Comes out looking orange or pink most of the time but in person looks great.
Aftermarket trim off eBay. Looks better in person and matches about 95% to the factory trim. It's got a gloss on it unfortunately that makes it fairly reflective with a lot of sunlight.

The red still throws me for a loop in bright pics. Like you said it looks red, purple, pink, and sometimes orange as well. Not the easiest to photo, especially with a cheap point and shoot camera.

Any suggestions on a good point and shoot? I'm not ready to invest in a DSLR yet, but this Nikon 10.1 MP SUX!

Hey you know what could cause the weird tint in photos... automatic red eye filters... Make sure anything like that is off... Then also even in cheap point and shoots there is settings for shutter speed. Normaly defined by what kind of light your in (auto, outdoors, forencent, so on) play with those one of them might give better results.

    Which do you have?
What setting do you shoot on? Green Camera (Full Auto)?

It blackens a very specific shade in red not all shades of red. So if your car color contains some of this shade... it will be darkened...

Nikon Coolpix S230. I tried Outdoor Scene and Full Auto. I've actually been hating this camera since the day we got it. I made the mistake of letting my wife choose the camera because she uses it the most, and liked the Nikon the most... It's a higher MP than my last Sony camera, but the Sony on Full Auto would 99% of the time take a great picture and it was only 4 MP. The Nikon comes out blurry or washed out most of the time.

I don't have much knowledge about the P&S cameras but I tend to steer toward Canon for those and Nikon for DSLRs (I like the ergonomics of the Nikon's better)

You may want to try adjusting the EV-/+ more towards the (-) like -1. This will force the camera to use a faster shutter speed. It may help with the blurry and washed out parts.

I've actually been looking to get a Canon SD780 IS as a bring around camera instead of lugging my Nikon D40 everywhere. Then bring the D40 when I know I am going to take pics.
