    Default New R-Spec Owner

Picked up my white R-Spec tonight! I'm pretty impressed with almost every aspect of this car so far. The breaking and handling are probably most impressive. It seems a little down on power currently, I can wait to have a little bit of extra money to start with some basic mod's. I don't think it will take much to make these motors come to life.

I'd post a picture but it won't let me because my post count isn't above 15... bummer

    Congrats and welcome aboard!

Not too many R-Specs around yet. A retune is going to be your best bang for the buck mod IMO.

Welcome to the site. I have a track and just with a downpipe so far it makes a nice difference, especially in top end. With complete bolt ons and a tune this car is going to be a beast! I can't wait. Waiting for my fmic to be released so I can order it already! What's your hp goal? U plan on staying stock turbo or doing an upgrade?

Jared! Welcome. Looking forward to seeing the R-Spec in action. Deffinately check out the PowerAxel flash and a FMIC. Should be a great performance model.

Thanks guys. I don't have any ridiculous horsepower goals as of yet. I'd really like to see what the stock turbo is capable of. I can almost guarantee the stock turbo is capable of high 12's from the spec's I've seen. Of course along with supporting mod's. I'm a old DSM guy and also have had a few WRX's as well.

I plan on following the same basic route I've done with my DSM's. I think I will probably do the downpipe first. Going to check out the PowerAxel stuff now, sounds pretty good.

I noticed today the transmission feels slightly notchy into second and third. Guess I'll have to do a search on that.

6MT is a fairly rough around the edges transmission unfortunately. Some people suggest changing out the fluid with a Red Line, Eneos, etc for smoother shifts. I've only been driving the manual for about a few days and have had a couple times in the morning when first gear just wasn't an option without brute force...

Hyundai has a TSB for dealers to change fluid and shifter for cars still on the lot. Give it a week or two and you'll probably be able to get it done at the dealer. I think it's 09-01-033 according to another site, but I can't confirm the TSB number 100%.

if you want to you can check out this thread on the 2.0T 6MT
    2.0T Manual Transmission Replacement

some of us early adopters have had our tranny's replaced, but apparently they are just tight trannys with finicky syncro's. My new one has a break-in of 1500km so when I do that I'll repost but so far it's easier.. but still.. my old cavvy shifted smoother.
