I was thinking of doing something similar but with an ipod touch. only issue with OLED is they usually have a reletively short usage life, around 5000 hours for Blue
I was thinking about the possiblity of removing the rectangle section inbetween the 2 guages and replacing it with a screen like this one:
SparkFun Electronics - Active Matrix OLED 2.4"
Taking the lights that are normaly there and running them into the control chip so that information can be displayed but also being able to display other things such as a digital boost guage or maybe even oil temp. If I could figure out exactly how I should be able to make a kit for others to install too.

I wouldnt get rid of those lights. They are simply on or off lights so all I have to do is hook thoses on or off signals into the controller for the screen and have the screen display that infomation.
Its a great idea if you can pull it off. Unfortunately I'm just starting the electronic program at my college, but maybe I can help you in 4 years haha.
Graduated Software Engineer with Computer Engineering under my belt too... I could probly do it no problem at all... My concern is doing it in a way that is looks pure stock and I dont want to wreck the value of my car any so the ability to easily put the old one back in would be nice too... Dont want to rip out the dremal...
could always find another cluster, I don't think any computer components are in the cluster.

Just have to wait and see exactly how it assembled I wont have the car for another month... When I get it tho switching the blue lights to red is on the top of the list so when I have the dash apart for that Im gonna work out the possibilty of the screen there. Unfortaintly no one has done any step by steps of removing the dash.
