    Default homelink mirror programming

    Hey guys,

Anyone use the homelink feature successfully? I have the GT model and I've had a devil of a time setting the mirror to work with my Genie garage door. And yes, I've read the directions

I've not even tried to set the homelink with the gate into my neighborhood. If anyone has any tricks or tips, I'd love to hear 'em!

    thanks, scooter

hah, funny you mention that because I never got mine working with my Liftmaster garage door and just today I decided to look into it again. Have you read the directions for your Genie itself? If it uses an encrypted signal (likely) then you'll have to set it up from the garage door, not the remote.

And my gate system hasn't worked with homelink either but then again my gate never works so I haven't put much effort into that one.

oh yeah, I've tried it from the garage door itself--rolling code or something like that. I can sync my garage door opener(s) and the door all day - just can't do the same with the homelink. Yeah, I'm not holding my breath for the gate either thanks!!

I decided to just go do it. Does your homelink even flash when you use the remote for your garage to indicate that it's linked up? Because mine did long ago and I think it may have actually worked. I hit the button on my opener and then got in my car. I discovered after I held the button for a few seconds the door closed and didn't give the signal I expected it would to indicate it needed to pair with my HL. So now I wonder if it always was linked up because I don't think I ever did anything other than press the button and the door didn't activate until after I held it for a couple seconds.

I've never gotten anything from the HL than the standard flashing light - according to the book - meaning it is not linked with anything...I'll have to go play with it some more after football this evening - since you've had some luck, I guess it can be done after all.

    Garage Door Openers<--- Link (compatable)

    Gate Openers<--- Link (compatable)

    Home Link Programing Help<--- Link

    CAUTION!
Before programming HomeLink to a garage door opener or gate operator, make sure that people and objects are out of the way of the device to prevent potential harm or damage. Your motorized garage door or gate will open and close while you are programming HomeLink. Do not program HomeLink if people or pets are in the path of the door or gate. A moving garage door or gate can cause serious injury or death to people and pets or damage to objects.

Vehicle exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a dangerous gas. Do not run the vehicle's engine while programming HomeLink. Exhaust gas can cause serious injury or death. When programming a garage door opener, it is advised to park outside of the garage.

Do not use HomeLink with any garage door opener that lacks safety stop and reverse features as required by U.S. federal safety standards (this includes any garage door opener model manufactured before April 1, 1982). A garage door that cannot detect an object signaling the door to stop and reverse - does not meet current U.S. federal safety standards.

If programming a garage door opener or gate, it is advised to unplug the device during the HomeLink programming and also if performing the "cycling" process to prevent possible motor burn-up.

NOTE: Some vehicles may require the ignition to be turned on or to the second (or “accessory” or ACC) position for training and/or operation of HomeLink. It is also recommended that a new battery be replaced in the hand held transmitter of the device being trained to HomeLink for quicker training and accurate transmission of the radio frequency.

    1. For first time training, press and hold the two outer HomeLink buttons, releasing only when the HomeLink indicator light begins to flash after 20 seconds. (Do not perform this step when training the additional HomeLink buttons.)

    2. Turn your vehicle’s ignition switch to the second (or "accessory") position.

    3. Position the gate operator handheld transmitter 1 to 3 inches away from the HomeLink surface (located on your visor, overhead console, or mirror), keeping the HomeLink indicator light in view.

    4. Using both hands, simultaneously press and hold both the desired HomeLink button and the gate operator handheld transmitter button. Continue to press and hold the HomeLink button while you press and re-press ("cycle") your handheld transmitter every two seconds until the frequency signal has been learned.
Note: It is advised to unplug the device during the "cycling" process to prevent possible motor burn-up.

    5. The HomeLink indicator light will flash, first slowly and then rapidly. When the indicator light flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released. (The rapid flashing light indicates successful programming of the new frequency signal.)

    6. Now press and hold the programmed HomeLink button and observe the indicator light. If the indicator light is solid/continuous, programming is complete. If the indicator light blinks rapidly for 2 seconds and then turns a solid/continuous light, proceed with the following rolling code programming instructions.

    7. Perform these steps only if your gate does not operate after completing Step 6.
At the garage door opener receiver (motorhead unit) in the garage, locate the “learn” or “smart” button (usually near where the hanging antenna wire is attached to the unit). If there is difficulty locating the training button, reference the garage door opener’s manual or contact us.

    8. Press and release the “learn” or “smart” button (the name and color of the button may vary by manufacturer). NOTE: Once the button is pressed, there are 30 seconds in which to initiate the next step.

    9. Return to the vehicle and firmly press and hold the programmed HomeLink button for two seconds and release. Repeat the “press/hold/release” sequence up to 3 times to complete the training process.
To operate your entry gate using your HomeLink system, simply press the programmed HomeLink button. Activation will now occur. For convenience, the gate operator handheld transmitter may also be used at any time.

HomeLink should now activate your device.

Retain the original hand-held transmitter of the RF device you are programming for use in other vehicles, as well as for future HomeLink programming. It is also suggested that upon the sale of the vehicle, the programmed HomeLink buttons be erased for security purposes. To erase the programmed buttons, perform the procedure shown in step number 1.

I had this issue with my GC and my moms Azera. I called homelink and they told me that you have to program one of the off buttons on your garage door remote to one of the buttons in your mirror first. First you reset everything in your GC then hold down one of the off buttons(not the garage door button) on your handheld remote until slow and fast flashing on your mirror. Once you ahve done this it will talk to the rolling code garage door. Just go and hit the learn button on the garage door and then hit the button you want to train on your mirror. say 1 one thousand between hitting the button to learn and do it a couple of times.

Worked like a charm for me. Got both programmed.

when trying to program the second or third button on your remote to the mirror at first keep in mind it will take a while for it to realize it is a rolling code. Most of the garage doors now a days are.

    Hope this helps.

Ok, I feel as though I'm seriously getting owned here....Very good information guys - thank you!
Did the trick with the 'off' button remote and the HL - seemed like it did talk with each other a bit judging by the flashing lights. Hit the learn button on the garage door and back into the car on the HL....nothing.
Tried it multiple times, a few different ways in accordance to the manual and to what folks have posted here...nothing.
I'll play with it again---I've had enough for this evening. thanks!!

when you get back in the car you just press the homelink button, right? You don't try training it again?
