    Default Removal of the dash

Hi I was just wondering if anyone could help me with removing the dashboard(silver parts) where the transmission and sound dials are..

Also the silver part of the steering wheel!

I was planning to do a carbonfibre wrap on those pieces.

    Thanks a bunch!

ohhh my trolling allowed me to find this thread prior to a pm. yup... being stuck at home has made me more lame....

either way, back to the OP.
I have no idea how to take the center stack off an AT.
(it's not the dash, for technicallity the dash is actually behind the crash pad which is what you see. Dash is structural, older vehicles had gauges and what not intergrated into the dash, hence the confusion but when things changed nobody really cared but I'm just saying. Kinda like the difference between bumper and facia...)
With a manual tranny you unbutton the shift boot and release the velcro, then using a taped butter knife or a soft rubber spatula slip in between the bottom near the center (close to the cup holders) then pry up.

There are four grasp clips that hold it down, they are on the lower stack section so it should pop out with a reasonable sounding thunk. Once the lower section is off, grasp the upper center stack from one of the sides and gently pull it away, it's got lots attached at the back so don't go reefing on it and break wires. Once you've got one side released just follow along the edges until it's all popped off. You'll then need to reach between the center stack top section and the crash pad to disconnect the wires, the Passenger Air Bag indicator is by far the hardest to remove you might need a small flat head screw driver to release the tiny ass clip. If you have the keyless system (ie push button start), I for one.. hate you cause I wish Canadian models got it on the 2.0T, and two.. have no idea how to disconnect it. Probably the same way as the others. I do NOT recommend trying to start or drive your car with any of your controls, accessories, indicators or wires disconnected. I've never tried so I don't know if the car will freak out and think someones trying to steal it.

When I get my nav unit I'm probably going to have to take my center stack off again (unless I can reach my GPS wire from the top) and how to remove it will be in my tutorial for that as well.

And just so you know.. I'm not responsible if something gets messed up. I give no bad info, so if it's done wrong its not my fault.

my Center stack painted in gloss black, recently waxed.

As for the steering wheel... good luck. First you have to disable your air bag, then remove the wheel itself, and then and then... it's a lot of work unless you're willing to pay a body shop to do it and take the blame if something goes wrong (mine wouldn't). The door trim pieces are easily removed after you've removed your door panel (Coupegirl is by far more experienced with door removal), the silver trim piece is actually only held on with two philips screws and some easy to detatch clips.
