    Default upgrading speakers?

I have a 3.8 gt which comes with the 10 speaker infiniti, but i was wondering about upgrading the speakers possibly. I just was not sure how would I upgrade? My friend told me just to get an amp and thats it.

Well you'd take all your trim pieces out, swap the installed speakers for something generally for higher quality or rated for a higher output and then put your trim pieces back in. But you've got Infinity speakers... so I'd just buy some subs, another amp that runs off the battery, get your feed from your infinity sub in the trunk and thats that.
The Infinity system has a multichannel amp located in the rear passanger side panel thats made by JBL, I woun't touch that unless A) you're good with repinning things and B) you're gonna be doing competition systems.

What do you feel is lacking in the current set up?

Yea alot of audiophiles have been discussing this over at gencoupe.com the stock infiniti system is actualy quite good in the numbers... the onlything lacks alittle is the bass... so if you want base maybe do a swap or just box the stock up up in an airtight box would improve sound too...

What about the stock 6 speaker system? Would it be possible to upgrade it to the 10 speaker system? Although with all those parts like the multichannel amp it sounds like it would be a lot of work. I guess my main question is- are all the mounting locations and hardware for the 10 speaker system already in the cars with the inferior systems?

amp is mounted on a removable plate behind the passenger side rear panel.. I don't know if non-premium spec coupes get that removable plate.

The amp is from JBL and the sub is dual voice coil, so it has some possibilities depending on how loud you want to get it.

As far as upgrading to the 10 speaker system, it's not about the amount of speakers that you have. It's about the quality of each speaker and the pre-amp/amp that feeds them. While the speakers are made by Infinity that's no guarantee of sound quality. I highly doubt they are from the Kappa series or they would have said so. Four Polk 6 1/2 SR6500 speakers will sound better than 10 regular speakers (plus much less wiring). It all depends on what type of sound you are looking for. Just remember to audition the speakers on your own, as only you have your set of ears. What sounds great to one person might sound like crap to you. Wiring the car wouldn't be hard, just time consuming. If you need wiring diagrams just let me know

Thanks for the info. I was just wondering if the mounts were there. I upgraded the base system in my old car (1997 Volvo 850) and all the mounts and wiring were in place already which was really nice. I was just wondering if the same went for the GC. I might just custom mount some 6x9s in the rear deck and add a set of speakers in the door where the fabric is and then re-wrap that door piece. Then put in the center speaker in the dash. My head unit has surround sound and utilizes the center channel- quite nice. Finish with a set of Alpine 12" Type- S subs in a ported box and be done with it.
