    Default Baffling gas consumption

Hey guy, been browsing for a while and need some assistance on trying to figure out what my problem might be.

I got myself a 2010 genesis coupe 2.0T auto with just over 15,000KM and I've always used regular (87 octane) gas.

Full disclosure; up until a few days ago i'd floor the gas often (not all the time), break quickly (thinking F1 style ;), drive mostly in the city.

After a couple of days of conscious driving (coasting, not accelerating/breaking too quick, no AC on), i can only manage to bring gas consumption to a baffling 15.5L/100KM - about 15MPG (used to get up to 20L/100KM or 11MPG).

Comparing this to others i feel extremely cheated! sometimes i can smell exhaust after getting out of the car and if i've been going fast, i hear some 'clicking' after turning the car off for a little while.

Also, my passenger's airbag light goes on 'OFF' at random occasions which tells me something's definitely wrong with my vehicle (got it off dealership few months ago, used car at 14,500 KMs)

If i wanted to get my dealership check my car out; would it all be covered by the warranty? I think something's really wrong here!

    any advise?

the 2.0T A/T is really well known for being horrible on gas. Especially the 2010 (pre 2010 build date). The first run of A/T's have a 4.10 final drive.. not exactly a fuel sipper. Also, the internal gearing isn't that great and average drive train loss for the 2.0T A/T is about 20% (compaired to the 2.0T M/T @ 12'ish% and the 3.8 A/T @ 13%). It was just a horrible idea on Hyundai's part to put a 5-speed auto in the GC.. it should have come with 6-speeds all around and the ZF mounted to the 2.0T as well.

The clicking noise your hearing is the exhaust (metal) cooling off or contracting. When metal heats up it expands and when it cools it contracts... Example, when you heat up and frying pan red hot and turn off the stove you'll hear the same noise.

I have a manual turbo R-spec and the engine (from what ive noticed) is SUPER sensitive to driving styles. Im a very concsious driver and I manage 21 to 23 mpg's in city.

There is also a different way to drive a turbo car compaired to a N/A car. You cant just slam the gas on a turbo car and expet to take off. Rather, ease on the gas til about 3,200rpms and then floor it. That should give your turbo enough exhaust pressure to build boost.

    Hope this helped!

And reguarding the air bag situation... I'd try turning on and off the passanger side air bag and watch it for a day or two or three. If it continues definitely send it in. (should be under warranty if it's a certified).
