Default Just bought a 2.0 Track - have minor issues

Now that my son is 12 years old, I have finally bought another sports car....no need for 2 family cars any more! I used to own fiats and alfas, and am happy to have another sporty car. The GC reminds me of my old alfa GTV6....but light years ahead in terms of features and refinement!

I am mostly very happy with my purchase. I love everything about my 2.0 Track - almost. But I have 2 issues, and I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same things:

    * at idle or in traffic, I smell a hint of exhaust in the cabin. not much, but enough. can't tell if it's coming from my car, or if the GC just does a good job sucking in the exhaust of other cars. I know I can press the recirc button, but that fogs up the windows pretty quick in the winter! Any one else notice a slight exhaust smell with their car?

    * I've had many 2 liter fours - and many older sports cars. But the 2.0 GC seems awfully 'boomy'. Not talking about the engine buzz, which is not bad IMO. I guess it's the exhaust note in the cabin. But the 'boomy' base sound leaves my ears numb after I drive more than an hour or so. Am I getting old? Is my car normal? Maybe it's been too long since I drove a sports car, and I need to get used to it?

Well, these are my only two gripes. But they do bug me. Maybe I should test drive another 2.0 to see if my car is the problem or not. Does anyone else have these issues?

    Thanks.

I believe the exhaust smell is definitely getting sucked in through the vent. Umm.. I have noticed it before with my GC but it stopped when I turned the recir on.. thus I don't think it's actually YOUR exhaust your smelling.. (not that you want the smell regardless)..haha.. and the "boomy"-ness, I dunno about this. I'd have to specifically hear it. Of course, it could be your need to adjust back to the culture.. but without being in your car I really dunno.. Though will say it's a great car and if these are your only two worries.. you're off to a good start. Welcome!!

take your GC into the dealership and make sure that the TSB on the exhaust bolts was done, just in case, get them to check the torque on them anyways. Otherwise.. I've never had an exhaust smell in my car.

If they have tightened the bolts, while it's on the hoist, get them to idle and rev your car to check for exhaust leaks. If you don't find any, well.. then it is just other stinky cars.

if the bolts are loose, that can cause an exhaust smell, and could explain a bit more cabin drone. But otherwise the 2.0 has, in my opinion, a quiet exhaust and little to no drone. So you might want to compare it to another 2.0 on the lot and see if maybe it's just yours. If it is just yours, then they should replace the exhaust.

So, I sat in my parking garage this morning with car idling, and it is indeed my own exhaust I've been smelling. Not so strong that it's uncomfortable or dangerous, but it is slight, and more than in any car I've had before. I'll take it to my dealer and see if they can find any leaks. This could also explain the boominess of my exhaust.

So far, not many replies to this thread, so I'm guessing my problem is not shared with the other members of this group. Good to know!

Aside from the above mentioned issue, I am totally loving this car!

Congrats on the car! Deffinately have your Hyundai Dealership take a look at the vehicle's exhaust manifold bolts and perhaps even the entire exhaust system for a problematic gasket or something in line. Also on our 2.0 Turbo model I never really notice too much of a cabin drone to it but that could actually be related to your other problem if there is a leak or small opening in the exhaust system causing excess noise perhaps before the catalytic convertors.

    Best of luck!

just checked hma with my dealer log in and i dont see any tsb's about the bolts on the exhaust or exhaust leaks....could just be your specific car. im sure they will have no problem dealing with whatever it is!

No exhaust smell in my 2.0T but i am not in traffic for more than 5 minutes and as for cabin noise. What noise? mine is too quite my other ride is a 407WHP V8 with headers, exhaust, intake and more so the Gen is funny for me to drive around. My kid hates it cause it is too quite for him. CMD tuner and exhaust is next for me.

    Good luck,
