In my case, the tranny was looked at by the warranty manager of the southeast region. As I expected, his position was, "that's the way they shift." He really was a pleasant guy, and since he felt there was no "real" problem," we are in a "wait and see" situation.

The single mass flywheel for the experiment was provided by me, at my cost.
The rear support bushing will be an OEM Hyundai Part.

In order to get this fixed for everyone, I'm paying for a lot of parts to help troubleshoot.

I have been driving with manual transmissions for many years, and have never had this happen. Putting a slight amount of left pressure on the stick was, and as far as I know, is the best way to insure that I go from first to second, and not accidentally slip into fourth.

You are absolutely correct. Going from first to second should be a smooth motion, not like sliding over rocks.

Maybe I should have joined the forum before I bought my GC. I too have noticed from 1st to second as well as second to third is always a bit of a grind to it. it is never a nice smooth shift. Kind of thought it was normal since it has been almost 15 years since I have driven a M/T. I Guess this is something to keep an eye on.

    Thnaks,

    Hey Guys,

Both Snoopy and I have been trying to help all who have a shifting problem by posting an on-going commentary of what our problems are, and what the dealers and or corporate is and has done about it.

What really needs to be done is for all who are having problems with the way our GC’s shift, is to inform Hyundai Corporate about our situations. If they only hear about one or two or three customers who are having problems, they could chalk it up to a few “these people can’t be satisfied.” On the other hand, if they get an “avalanche” of complaints all relating to the same rough shifting issue, they may take it more seriously, and really address this problem.

What you need to do is contact corporate. Inform them you have a shifting problem, and all other related information. On second thought, it would be easier for me to give you the information you need to get in touch with corporate.

Please send me a private message, and include your personal email. I will then contact you, and perhaps we can actually speak about how and what you should do.

I also have a contact at corporate that in aware of my case, and I have also sent her “clips and bits” of information from this site.

It would seem to me, all of us with shifting problems should be working with just one member of the corporate team, so all information from unhappy customers is in one place.

    Alan

    Alan, Good idea.

I called today and talked to the service manager in Anacrime, CA he said that this is the first he has heard of anything wrong with the shifting. When I told him that sith and sometimes fifth stick he said that I need to bring it in and let them drive it. He said it may need an adjustment or an update? does a MT have firmware or software updates??? I could see an automatic having something to update. anyhow I figure I will wait for my first oil change and go from there.

He probably meant an updated part.

Manual transmissions don't have any software or sensors connected to them.
