    Default My Genesis Coupe Story

Hey guys - I'm rather new here... my wife has had the 2010 Genesis Coupe 2.0T in Lime Rock Green for about 14 months now, and I'm finally getting around to getting my own! I just got a great new job, and I decided to reward myself with a nice new Genesis Coupe. I currently have a 2005 Chevy Malibu LS... here's my story.

I headed to the dealer to find a 2010 Coupe. I was told that the 2011's were coming in, and the 2010's were being cleared out, so I had to act fast. I found the last Grand Touring in Black in the entire Pacific Northwest, so I hurried to figure out the financial details. Yesterday evening, I was told that they would take my trade for $1,000 above what I owe on it. They also told me that they could set up a lease deal for me. Also, since they were getting rid of the 2010's, they offered to sell it to me at $300 above invoice. Unfortunately, the car was in another city, so I had to wait for the next day to finalize everything.

That day was today. I woke up, cleaned out the Malibu, and set off to the dealership. The finance guy I dealt with yesterday wasn't there, but the dealership manager was instead. As we're looking at everything, he realized that they can't really set up a lease for the 2010 because there is no lease information set up (I have no idea how this stuff works) so we started looking into purchasing instead of leasing. Upon further investigation, the manager determined that the guy yesterday had accidentally quoted me a price for me trade in based on the wholesale value, and there was no way they could legitimize that. Ultimately, they could offer me $500 less than I owe (negative equity). It seemed like it was all falling apart.

Here's where it gets good. The manager really wanted to work with me, so he decided that he would sell me a 2011 at the 2010 invoice price. That's right. Furthermore, he recommended that I go home and sell my Malibu private party, where I could definitely get more for it. Once that is sold, I can come on down and pick up the Genesis Coupe - and if it's not there, they can get me into a loaner until it is.

So all said and done... while I do have to wait, I am gonna pick up a 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Grand Touring in Black for a steal of a deal! Nothing like getting one of the nation's first 2011's at a 2010 price.

Thanks for the read guys - and I'm excited to finally be a legitimate member of the Genesis Coupe family. I'll keep ya posted

Good luck with the purchase man. If you have a Carmax nearby.. see what kind of deal they'll give you on your Malibu. May help you to move it a bit quicker.
