Thread: Do you think that your coupe paint job is cheap!?

I've had mixed feelings on this issue. For me I've got about 4000 miles on my coupe and have just very minor scratches so far. I do almost 50 miles on the highway every day for work and on the weekends its mostly just around town. I think that the paint is good but just not excellent quality.

I am a little surprised to see how quickly I got some chipping. I mean, you can tell by running a hand over it that its not the same quality you'd get on a Japanese car. But let's face it...to get what we got at the price we got it...they had to save money somewhere.

But I don't think its horrible. Paint chips DO happen.

I'd be surprised considering that, from what I've heard and it may be incorrect info, the paint system they used came from Mercedes Benz. They even assisted in the design of the coupe.

Make long story short and give you some ideas when Genesis coupe was manufactued and assembled in Korea, a lot of factories supply OEM parts for Hyundai including painting lines got bankrupt or close down due to economic failure and recession. Paints are imported and Dollar currency was very strong.. in short, Hyundai had to change over factories and that was the one of the reason Genesis coupe came out later than it was supposed to.
Good thing tho all these defective first batch of Genesis Coupe were only sold in Korea, and poor Korean owners had to live with it.
Hyundai did replaced things under warranty tho.
So what we have here in North America or any Genesis Coupes that are exported are at least the better verison than Korean ones things corrected.

KDMGuy, awesome info. Glad to see the US models didn't suffer. The paint looks awesome but I mean areas like the bumpers etc are going to get jacked up. We'll have to get some touchup in the future. No worries!

yes!!!!! i had a rep come down the 3rd week i owned it i was getting scratches galore, i have worm looking things under the paint and the hood, fish eyes in the door jam ,massive orange peel and adhesive stains, and all they wanted to do is repaint the door jam , im still fighting with hyundai cause its bs

Do you know if indeed Mercedes had any hand in the design of the GC? I know the turbo is Mitsu or at least that is what I read.

I have had the same problems it seems as all of you. I have over 4,000 miles on mine and you can definitely see a tremendous amount of damage for such a short driving period.
I will be bringing it in to Hyundai to see what they have to say.
