Yo he visto hasta viejas en el 2.0T jaja
Right now I'm in my motherland. The beautiful island of Puerto Rico. I'm here for my cousins wedding and also have a condo on the main strip (isla verde) in Carolina, PR. Well I just had to say, of all the new sport coupes that have come out since last year, the genesis coupe reigns supereme. In 8 days I have seen 14 of them. All beautiful and 2 with custom exhausts. 370z has only showed itself 3 times. Camaro 2 times and challenger 2x. I see mustangs but not often. They are not popular on the island due to the live axle rear and the near daily rain fals that occur through a good majority of the year.
The only other car that seems to be new and have a much superior showing in PR are the Lancer ralliart and evo X. I seen 3x more of these and most were already fully custom. What you gotta respect about puerto rican car buyers is that they pay about 8k to15k more than american car buyers for there cars due to a huge import tax placed on them by the U.S. Only certain car companies with Mexican plants give tax breaks some imports.
So when puerto ricans pick a car in an economy where the average person makes 20k a year. They try hard to buy the best. Going to the island and getting opinions is better than mags IMHO. These are people that drive 55% of the time on steep mountain winding roads and fuel economy is a huge factor due to driving conditions.
Also this is an island where a reliable car is extremely important due to a much higher level of abuse that these cars go through due to traffic and road conditions.
The tiburon was extremely popular in PR and the Gencoupe followed suit.
PR enthusiasts are way different than US enthusiasts. Even though they are equally brand loyal out there, they admire all brands respect each others cars. I see vette owners admiring a gencoupe and vice versa. From motorcycles to ATV's, my people down here are passionate about all cars and its a beautiful thing when its positive fun.
2.0's start at almost 30k here and 3.8's are in the upper 30's. 370z base is a $40k car. All on the U.S. dollar. (PR uses US currency)
Anyway, I just thought you GC owners would like to know that there is a place where people don't say. "Oh but its a hyundai". My condo is on a strip where porsche boxster, cayman and 911 are common. Lambos race from speed bump to speed bump. And the corvette GS is the new sex car. But the GC and EVO hold there own in that crowd getting a similar respect.![]()
