Sucks that you feel that way man and I don't like hearing about stories like that......but on another note....you 4 wheelers are worse to us truck drivers. 99 times out of 100 its you guys that cause trouble for us. I could give you a million stories about how I was cut off by cars, or ran off the road by a dumb ass who forgot to check his mirrors before he merged, or even how dummy's don't get up to speed before they merge onto major highways and always force me to slam on my brakes while I'm hauling 50,000 lbs worth of product in my box.

Anyway. Not all truckers are good, but most of us are. There are a reason we hold a title of Proffessional driver. I drive 150,000 miles a year and I drive everywhere in North America (except Northern canada and Alaska) and I can tell you first hand that for every bad Truck driver there are 1000 worse 4wheelers.
I've had a an SUV who didn't clean off there roof with ICE have that Ice come right through my windshield almost killing me, it put me in the hospital. I've had Cars throw rocks up into m grill and pop a hole in my rad, and yes I've had cars blow there tires and spin out almost causing me to run into them because they don't know how to "stare straight and steer" when they blow a drive tire. I've been involved with 9 fatalities of people who could have easily avoided the collisions eaily but instead were careless.

So yes it's not just us Truck drivers to blame.....if you're afraid of stuff flying up at you then stay back. There are signes on rock trucks and what not that say Stay back 100ft or more, just for that reason. Pay attention to the warning signs next time you decide that following a truck is a cool idea.

    ^^ +1

And how do you think your GC made it to your dealership, or the cloths your using to the store, or the materials used to build your house, etc, etc, etc.

    fatflyguy...

I understand where you're coming from, but you seem to have missed the ENTIRE situation.

I was coming down the road the OPPOSITE way. There was no distance to be had. The truck coming down the other direction was going MUCH to fast for the road and was bouncing all over the place. So, this falls under one of those bad drivers.

We have a 38' 5th wheel trailer for our race car. I know what it is to pull a trailer, and he was going way to damn fast, so my car pays for his irresponsibility. You know, there is this "neat" pedal to the left of your gas pedal, that you use to get your shit back under control. Perhaps these truck drivers who have it SOO hard, should try USING it.

SO I"m going to disregard your comment, because you obviously didn't even bother reading the original message. You just wanted to shoot your mouth off. Please read the first message of the thread next time.

Just putting my two cents in...ALL of us should try our best to respect the rules of the road AND the others driving on it. Unfortunately, accidents do happen. Sometimes they can be avoided, sometimes not. I try my best to anticipate the possibilities. Heck, I was even recently run off the road by a police officer in a marked car with NO lights or siren. He just merged into my lane causing me to run off the road to avoid getting hit. Laying on the horn seemed to have no affect. Thankfully, the traffic was moving kind of slow at the time.

There are an equal number of bad drivers driving large vehicles as the ones driving small ones. But the small one is going to be crushed by a truck

The only part that really bothers me is when farmers and truckers don't use their tarps when hauling gravel/grain or fert. Kick up happens, some jackass in a jacked up truck with mud tires on the highway is going to kick more gravel than a semi, but when haulers don't cover their loads, I'm pretty sure thats illegal.
We have a 25 ton crane truck for work, drive that on the highways and our tires don't kick stuff up, just arn't treaded like that.

That one guys bouncing down the road was obviously an idiot and shouldn't have had his Class1 if he couldn't control his rig.

    Default Car+ Semi = Ouch

    A picture's worth a thousand words:

This was my previous car, about a year and a half into ownership.

Basically, I was in a lane that became an exit lane, a VW ahead of the semi merged ahead of me such that I couldn't move. I was in the truck driver's blind spot, and he hadn't seen me while I had been driving. I was just far ahead of him that he was in my blind spot as well. My first indication that he was merging was the sound of grinding metal as the ten lugs on the front cab wheel drilled into my door...

Luckily, not too bad (door+quarter panel+wheel), and I reinforced my wariness of semis, even if they're being properly driven.

i see it as semis vs cars, are like cars vs pedestrians. It doesnt matter who isnt following the rules of the road, if a car hits a person, the person will lose every time, so drivers still should use extra caution even around bad pedestrians. I think truck drivers should use a little extra caution than the rest of us, because if they hit something, thier rig is gonna do more damage than a car.
