Hello everyone i am about to do the intake silencer delete and was wondering do you have to put the 3 inch exhaust pipe in replace of the silencer if i am going to add a cone filter to the end of it?

2 1/2 exhaust pipe approx. 2. 3/4 long
alright kool..would u recommend me to take the silencer out or keep it in..if i kept it in would it increase hp with the cone filter.
the reason why i ask is because i heard that if u add the exhaust pipe it is prone to rust so i was wondering if that was something i had to use.. i was wondering if i took out the silencer and just added the cone filter if that would be safe?
get stainless steel exhaust pipe. Then no rust. A cone filter and silencer delete will maybe net you.. 1-2hp difference.. mostly you'll get more response since the turbo doesn't have to suck so hard to get air.

ok kool thankz for your help i will be doing it tommorow!!
Or paint with rustoleum if you get non stainless. Aluminum pipe would actually be best as it's lighter weight, but realistically it doesn't matter. lol
I know of several people who used soup cans.

if you're getting an Injen doing this is basically a waste of time.

I just finished my intake silencer delete tonight (started way back way but I've modded several times since). If you get a cone filter, you want one that has a OD of at least 3inches, then you'll need a piece of 3inch exhaust pipe (preferably stainless steel) about 2 1/2 inches long to connect your OEM intake tube to the cone filter. You can reuse the OEM clamp, but if your filter doesn't come with a clamp you'll need to get one.
To do the silencer delete, you'll need another piece of exhaust pipe. Not to contradict anyone but I used 2 3/4 OD pipe about 3 inches long and it fit really well.
If you have access to a bench style (my prefered) wheel grinder and a cylinder hone polish the metal up really nicely, specially get the sharp edges so they don't cut into the soft OEM material. Cylinder hone is just for cleaning up the inside of the pipe to make it smoother for air intake, nothing noticable.
If you have a rather large cone filter (like I have) you'll need to make a bracket to hold the cone down away from your hood otherwise you'll get rubbing (like I did). If you want check out page 5 of my Cardomain for a rough idea of what the bracket I made looks like, and a few other intake silencer pics. The bracket is made from forged aluminium and has undergone about 12 designs before I finally got it right. Connects to the OEM airbox screw down beneath the steering fluid resevoir, used the OEM screw, used rubber plumber bushings to prevent damage to the tiedown.
Post up some pics, check out my cardomain for more, got a few walkthroughs there too.
