Default Anyone else's GC tempermental in cold weather?

Hey Everyone, I've owned my Gry Touring GC M/T since September, and all was well until the weather turned colder...I live in South Jersey, so I'm not talking arctic temps, but my coupe started acting up when the weather dropped into the 40s and below.

First, when the car is cold, I cannot get the car into 1st (and sometimes 2nd) unless I am at a complete stop. This goes away once the car is fully warmed up.

Yesterday, my GC started exhibing another cold-weather symptom...I first start the car after it has sat overnight or a several hours at work(usually let it warm up for a min or 2), I put the car into first and roll out of a parking space....go to shift into second, and the RPMs hang at about 2500 RPMs....Put it into neutral and stop the car, after 10-15sec, the RPMs settle down. I thought this was odd and have never had this happen before...but this morning, same thing. This time I hit the gas pedal thinking it was stuck...engine revs up, but then drops back to the 2500 mark instead of the normal idle. Again, after about 10-15sec, it calms down.

Anyone else with a m/t having similar issues?

Are you driving 2.0 or the 3.6? Im in South Jersey too and I dont have a GC yet but I know exactly how the weathers been. Turbo cars are gonna be more senesitive to cold weather. And the higher then normal idel is normal for cold weather running... Tho 2500 seems alittle high to me I would expect maybe 2000. But engine sensors are gonna know its colder and that the airpressure is differnt and act slgithly differnt then normal... As for the shifting I have a theory on that. This car uses a specail 2 peice fly wheel. It uses little springs has like a dampener on the fly wheel. In cold weather these springs should stiffen quite a bit and make shifting slightly more difficult but as for not being able to get in gear at all? That does seems off.

    My cold weather issues:

    > Rough shifting into 1st and 2nd when engine is cold.
    > Started her up today at -17C and the steering was stiff, almost like power steering was lost. Was fine when I made my 2nd turn.
    > Rattling of interior is much worse, really really annoying rattle and creek in the drivers side door. Goes away once it warms up a little.

@ OP's issues. My engine usually idles at 750RPM but when cold it can be at 1250RPM, but I haven't had it go up to 2500.

    My cold weather issues:

    >started it up at -40, computer forgets the temp control settings, have to reset it manually
    >takes about 15 minutes of idle to warm up
    >no boost.. like at all.. might be my own preception thats why I'm installing a gauge.
    >really really stiff suspension, hate even cracks in the road
    >HID equipped GC's don't make enough heat to defrost their own headlamps, have to drive with fogs.

I always let my car warm up so I haven't had the steering issue. Gear shifting is always hard when the transmission is cold, someone once posted changing the fluid to a thinner one.. but that means changing your tranny fluid twice a year.. lately mine will grind second, started just when it started warming up.. so dunno.. might be loads of things, and I have the new tranny so it shouldn't be my syncro's again.

I'm only about 12 miles up I295 from you in Cherry Hill, so our weather is the same...
On the "cold" weather issue, I have the 3.8 w/auto and have noticed no problems whatsoever with the temperature as it relates to performance of the car....doesn't make sense why the manual would find it to be a problem unless they are using some heavier viscosity tranny fluid that takes longer to warm up....

    As to "Off Topic"
Hyundai City, in Burlington is the best...no bs, no games, great deal...
Burns in Marlton is a typical car dealer...mostly bs, but I suppose you could work something out if you don't mind playing car dealer games
as is the dealer in Turnersville...Classic, I think the name is
Whatever you do, do not go to Northeast Auto Outlet in Philly,
they are the scum of the earth, will lure you in with a reasonable
internet offer and then try to bend you over on your trade or otherwise

Well I know MAP sensors have issues in cold weather... mainly cuz of density of the air problems thats why you get a high idel.. Check my current car(mazda protege) today (left about 8pm to go out) and it was ideling at just on 2k... normaly it idels at 1k so definately normal to get a bit but I think if your seeing 2.5k there is a problem.

Also turbo cars hopefully purposely turn off boost when the engines still cold... You really shouldnt boost on a cold engine the air is so dense that you get to much fuel... and alot of power... but its power the engine cant prodict which can blow rods... laughed at my friend for doing it in is STI to show off in the snow... Didnt blow a rod but his engine back fired out the intake and the pressure that it caused blew all his cold side piping and blew out his fog light cover like 20 feet it was priceless!

Ya I was thinking Turnerville just cuz I was hoping to take it out on the track they have there. But I'll look into Burlington since I gonna want a dealer that will help me get exactly what I want.

I've got a month old 3.8GT w/auto...last Friday drove to work (temp 14') and couldn't get it out of 1st gear (even tried manual mode). Dealer pulled computer to send to CA for program update, then told CA by Tech Rep that is was probably the ground wire on strut tower. Said to replace "anti-corrosive bolt" w/standard...did that & no more diagnostic errors, seems to run fine now. But just sounds very strange. Was told mine was the 3rd one that CA was aware of. Anyone else heard anything like this? 60sguy.
