I ended up crawling in the trunk and used a couple of things: a really small screw driver and several choice curse words.
Why bother with all that?
Do like I did and just pry/rip it off, protecting the surrounding paint from damage...so, you have some scratches under where the new emblem will go...who cares? no one will ever know!...biggest pain in the butt is getting the old adhesive off, but with WD40 to soften it up, a liberal application of hot air from your wife/girlfriend's blow drier, and some elbow grease with a sturdy plastic knife, it all comes off in about 15-20 minutes, leaving you a clean surface to apply your Wings.....I did use some isopropyl alchohol to get off the remainder of the WD40, altho I don't know that it was really necessary...
