    Default 6000K or 8000K

So I am planning on buying HIDs this week and I am not sure if I should get 6000K or 8000K,

I read online that HIDs are illegal? and that people get away with them because they shine white instead of blue. My problem is that I live in Chicago and I am leaning more towards the 8000K but i'm not sure I want to add another thing that the cops can pull me over for.

Also with the 6000K's i heard that they shine brighter and blind drivers on the road which can result in getting pulled over for basically driving with brights on.

So what do you guys think 6000K or 8000K?

HID's are only illegal if they are installed in halogen housings, and produce a colour other than white. Colour temps are just that, temps. If you go with either 6000k or 8000k you produce white light. The GC has a proper focusing lense that keeps the HID light in check, I have 6000k from DD installed and yes, they are brighter, but no, they don't blind people. I had my brother drive infront of me at night, and then do an opposing pass just to be sure because I don't want to be responsible for an accident so I understand your concerns.

Because 6000k produces more usable (this is the important part) light, it seems brighter, but it actually isn't. SAE has a maximum lumens rating for road vehicle lights, HID's sit in that category. 6000k is closer to what they call "natural" light, similar to sunlight (don't see it myself since I think the sun is a little yellow), your focusing lense will make the 6000k seem blue anyways, similar to how the lenses on Merc's, Lincolns and Toyotas make 4300k seem blue.

    Illinois Rules of the Road
In your particular state.. there is no regulations or laws prohibiting any style of bulb or defining colour.
    However,
    FMVSS No. 108 Full Text
US Federal regulations state they must be white.

Just some info to cover your ass, but either 6000k or 8000k should be fine. It's blue if it turns a piece of paper blue.

ya the 6000K or 8000K both shine white but i'm leaning towards the 8000K because they are more blue and they will match my LED audi lights which are hyperwhite/blueish

I am also thinking of changing out my HID's for 6000K. I'd really love to see the difference between stock and 6000K.

I'd do 6000K! It'll be the best of both worlds. Amazing light output, and great looks. 8000K tend to be an icy blue color, rather than white.

I'll most likely be swapping my stock 4300K's for some 6000K's too. The stock temp looks realllly yellow to me for some reason.

6000k should be a great in between. 4300k looks hyper white compared to most cars but the 6000k is a good uprgrade for the base models and looks closer to an exotic. Either way I'd love to see the video for reference.
