    Default Winter Tires - Speed rating

    I"m looking for winter tires since September. I tried to go with 17'' wheels, but it's to complicated (see post: pneux d'hiver). I will go with 18'' tires and will by new wheels this spring. This way, I will have 2 set of tires+wheels, 1 for the summer and 1 for the winter. Now I found some interesting information:

    Size: 225/45R18

    1- Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60 - H - 270$(CND)
    2- Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3 - V - 310$(CND)
    3- Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 - V - 285$(CND)
    4- Pirelli Winter 210 Sottozero - H - 240$(CND)
    5- Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero - V - 240$(CND)

    The big question: Which speed rating should I get ?? T, H or V

    I think I will go with choice #5.
    What do you think ?

    T = 190km/h
    H = 210km/h
    V = 240km/h

    I don't think rating in this case is much of an issue (at least I hope your not planing on going over 190 in the snow) so I would go with the best preforming tire.

    I purchased the Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3 a few months ago for my winter tire. They had the best ratings I could find and I got a pretty good price on them from a local tire dealer.

    There is this...i choose option #4... the one with H rating. The technical staff said that, it is a good practice to go with a lower speed rating in the winter. Why? Because the structure of the tires is less firm on hard surface like bumps, ice, hard snow, etc. I will give news when i receive my pirelli tires. I buy my tires by phone at a BC shop and save 400$ versus my local tire shop. That's good news

    Hahaha....that's a good one. For shure, a chev. is less expensive.

    I pay in total 1015$CND (including tax + insurance + shipping ) for 4 tires 225/45R18.
    Since in winter I'm not doing speed, even if the back tires are smaller than originals, I don't think I will notice rolling.

    I ordered Michiline X-Ice XI2, they've got the same rating as the Blizzaks but have longer tread live and were about 500$ cheaper. Installed and everything $1100 from my local Hyundai dealership.
