That's your opinion, but I 100% disagree. Oil changes are something everyone should do themselves IMO. However, most people seem to share your sentiments. I won't let a dealer touch my car unless I absolutely have to. They don't care about your car...it's just another oil change on their schedule of things to do.
If I ever had to go in for warranty work, I'd be standing there while they worked on it, or it wouldn't get worked on. The only person that will ever work on my car is me if I can help it...
Oil filter assembly $58. Labor will be $30. I'm really pissEd though because I'm wondering if the last place either used an impact gun and made it beyond humanly tight or if they even changed my oil! It was very dark when I changed it. But either way once this gets replaced I should be good to go in the future.

Yea one thing to consider doing is next time you go in mark your oil filter housing with like a sticker or something that needs to be punctured or removed in order to get the filter out but put it on the non-visable side. Like one of those small round "garage sale" type stickers. When you get car back after said "oil change" see if it has been removed. Also some places "drain the oil" but only allow the car to sit for like 5 minutes before closing back the plug. This isn't proper time to allow all of the old oil to flow out.

Like insane, I don't trust anyone to work on my car. That said though.. I've made a few friends at my dealership (mind you it's not the one I bought the car from) and I trust the one guy to work on my car. My one body shop does impecable work, top notch, so he gets my business.
My general rule is, If I don't know you, don't touch my car, and even then, as little as possible.

Hey, that's your choice, and that's fine. To me, when I get a car, and I'm going to keep it a long time, I know any work done to it by me will be done right, rather than at a dealer where you are just another car coming in for whatever. I don't have any problems with my dealer, I just don't need them to work on the car...especially for routine maintenance. Getting under the car and getting dirty, as you put it, is part of owning and working on a car. It's also much cheaper and you end up learning a lot about your car in the process. You seem to be the type of person that gets a car and wants to modify it, but lets other people do all the work for you. That's cool, but to me, that misses the point of enjoying doing the work on the car. Spending an hour or so changing my oil is not a chore to me, and it's just like washing or waxing the car...which is also work. I enjoy spending a nice weekend day out working on the car, changing the oil, washing and waxing or whatever. I also don't have to rearrange my work schedule to drop off my car at a dealer, pay them to do what I can easily do for free, and arrange to pick it up later or wait for it. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you don't keep cars for very long? I keep my cars for 7-10 years...that's why I buy brand new and do all the maintaining myself.
I did this how to, and I probably will do other how to's for the people who want to work on their car themselves, so that if they are apprehensive about doing some work, they can see the whole process before they start, have all the correct tools ready, and have the job go a lot more smoothly. You clearly aren't one of them, and want to just drop your car off somewhere and pick it up later, and hey, more power to you. However, please don't act like those of us who enjoy working on our cars are somehow wasting our time and why bother...

I would much rather do everything on my vehicle. I'm sitting here at Bob Dance Hyundai and it took almost 1.5 hours to do the radio update on lindseys car. My oil filter housing was replaced in like 20 minutes but I'm now waiting to have them apply the ECM TSB as well as the TCM TSB for the Genesis V6. Let's hope everything goes well. Just saw them take it out for test drive. Oh yea and I just watched a customer drop off their new Cadillac XLR and have one of the service guys chirp the tires and attempt to slide it around a corner.
I'm only here because I couldn't get the radio update DVD on my own and I had to order the entire oil housing just to replace a stripped cap...

Forgot to mention that I came in asking for the TSB and they tried to tell me that they only do them if there's a recall. Then when I fight that he goes in for a bit... Comes back and says hey can we use your tsb print outs our Internet went down. Oh yea and earlier there's a guy leaving on lindseys car smoking a cigarette with her window wide open. When I said is there a problem here he said oh I'm not the technician. Then I asked then why are you here? He was like oh I'm trying to learn about that update.. Lol get me outta here.
