yeah... first time I took my car in they said "they just do that", found a new dealer and they said "you need a new tranny". I would have figured all R-Specs would have gotten the new tranny's but.. Some do have issues in the shift linkage, don't know the details on the fix but I know that some have been repaired.
The Original problem was out of spec from factory syncromeshes. Affected gears were 2nd, 3rd and 5th. 1st from what I understand is always a pain in the ass and it's made that way to prevent you from going from 4th to 1st by accident. If you are getting a grinding sound and you know you're shifting right, then something else is wrong because that's usually clutch disengagement. Try double clutching and see if it still does it.
As for reverse, your foot pretty much HAS to be on the floor. You could also not be getting it into gear fully. Each gear has a sort of stepping (don't know what else to call it), sit in your car with the e-brake on, clutch engaged and engine running, then float through the gears, don't hit the accelerator. You should feel little "pops", when you slid into 3rd (just using it as an example) you should feel the alignment take hold (won't go side to side anymore) then the gear engage. When your car is running like butter you won't notice the little "pops" and it'll just slide into the gears one after another. My cavvy didn't "step" like these tranny's seem to but my old Rabbit did.

If one of our more autotech savvy people wanna elaborate or better explain, please do, I don't know very much about transmissions.

Snoopy...This is my 1st stick car so i may be wrong...but my friend and I took it out the night I got it and he drove it, and would not stop complaining about the rev hanging... He thought something was wrong with it so i took it to the dealer the next day and asked, but they said that the rev hangs for the turbo, since it kickes in around 3000 rpm it hangs so the boost will hit quicker..correct?

Uhhh... Your tech is wrong, because the car drops the boost the moment you take your foot off the pedal. everyone Ive talked to hates the rev hang, and it can't be a "good thing" if Hyundai has already issued a TSB to fix it. Mine used to hang until I got it fixed. Some of the other folks on here also got it fixed. The rev hang is from the ECU, not the tranny.
Tell your friend he's right. And tell your tech to service your car properly. While he's updating your ECU he can also update your Bluetooth and headunit firmware.
Sorry if I'm coming off as a dick but I hate lazy techs and crappy customer support.
