AND OF COURSE, VERDICT IS, SHE NEEDS A NEW TRANNY. ANY OF YOU GUYS KNOW IF THIS MEANS I WILL HAVE THE SAME TRANNY AS THE '11S HAVE? OR WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR MY BABY. I WAS TOLD I CAN DRIVE HER UNTIL THE NEW ONE ARRIVES AND SO I WILL DO SO BUT I'M HOPING THIS WILL BE THE END OF HER SHOP VISITS. ANY INPUT OR SUPPORT WELCOME.. *SADNESS*

Right now it appears that transmissions in a lot of cars are having similar problems. 370Z's, G37's, Camaro's... basically anything that has a manual transmission and a dual-mass flywheel. My mechanics have all said that there is absolutely no reason a dual-mass flywheel should be in a sports car.
I seriously suggest if you can afford it, since they'll have the tranny out anyways, get a clutchmaster single-mass and a FX200 clutch (stage 2).

sounds like an idea. what's the price range you're referring to. And are there other comparable brands or do you believe this to be the best replacement for our vehicle specifically..
    thanks snoop

If you're looking for a much more aggressive clutch, the DTM Stage-4 from PowerAXEL is by far the best, I'm looking for something a bit more forgiving and DD friendly since I have yet to track my car that also offers a much higher grip. I've heard a few complaints about the SPEC clutch and decided that Clutchmasters higher flywheel weight would keep similar rev up speed and I didn't want to change my characteristics too much while still getting a higher performing product.

Ouch! I have no wisdom to share. I would offer to do a "tranny dance" (similar to a rain dance) but with my luck (and apparently yours as well), it would only result in a bunch of men appearing before you in heels and dresses.

    Breathe patience.

I just realised that I didn't give you a ballpark on that price.
I can't give you a specific price since the vendor I went through isn't a site sponsor but complete kit is in the $1500-1700 US range. And honestly, getting rid of that dual-mass is one of the best mods anyone could do, specially on a I4 since they arn't exactly a smooth engine.

I can however link product pages.
This is the clutch kit I just bought: Clutch Masters- Your High Performance Specialists
The FX200 (stage 2) offers the same OEM drivability as the Stage 1 but by using higher quality materials extends the life of the clutch signifigantly.

Clutchmasters doesn't list the GC flywheel but they do make it.
    P/N: FW-095-SF
    Weight: 21lbs
    Type: Single Solid Mass
Unique Features: Replaceable friction surface, replaceable high carbon steel ring gear

You could ask anyone who uses this forum on a regular basis, I HATE to buy cheap garbage products and will call out any vendor who sells sh*t. So why did I buy Clutchmasters Flywheel when it weighs more than the competion and costs more? Because Clutchmaster built a full steel flywheel for best durability. Their heavier weight is better for low end torque than a lighter flywheel, the heavier weight also keeps clutch chatter down and reduces premature syncromesh wear. I'm not going to buy something that takes away torque, will break faster or cause harm to other components.
I've also heard some not so good things about the SPEC parts.

    Hope that helps.

    Added info:
Just for reference.. OEM part numbers and costs.
    3.8L 6sp M/T
    part# 41200-25210 (Clutch disc & pressure plate) MSRP = $1256.34
    part# 23260-3C701 (Dual mass flywheel) MSRP = $2297.44

    2.0t 6sp M/T
    part# 41200-25010 (Clutch disc & pressure plate) MSRP = $1256.34
    part# 23200-3C010 (Dual mass flywheel) MSRP = $3902.14
