you do get more horsepower with Premium than with Regular, the car is smart like that. No fiddling needed, it'll do it by itself once it notices the higher octane. Best to switch octanes when you almost run out of fuel than when you top it up.

All GC's get better horsepower and often better milage with Premium over Regular, Hyundai however chooses to concentrate it's advertising on Regular fuel numbers since there seems to be a stigma on Premium fuel.

I would have to disagree with the mileage. I did my own lil test and found that on regular i got hands down a 2-3 mpg bump over premium 93 octane. I actually drove it like this for a few weeks because the actual power difference was barely even noticeable when just doing your daily driving and the thought of saving some change was nice. Eventually i went back to premium however just because i've always heard that turbo cars should always be run with high octane.

I on average get about 200km more per tank with Premium (93) over Regular (87) when I buy Shell. Mind if I ask which brand you buy? Obviously what you get is what you get, quite a few people disagree on the fuel economy of the GC, so I think honestly that aspect is dependant on how you drive, environment, altitude and so on.

I live in relatively flat prairies at appx 2500ft, I'll go to about 800ft in a little over 500miles. So no super drastic altitude changes for me.

Fuel brand means little to nothing. Gasoline is gasoline. It all comes from the same regional refineries and it's all refined the same way, to the same standards.
The octane rating may differ but the fuel you obtain at Shell is the same fuel you get at Citgo, or any other fuel station.
The difference is in the additives that are put into each tanker truck when the fuel is picked up at the fuel depot........ and you're lucky if the additives ever make it into the tank.
Those additives rarely boost HP. They are mainly detergents that help keep the engine clean & the fuel from gelling.

I really dont stay with one brand of fuel. It's really just wherever i happen to be. I live in Orlando FL, so its hot and flat too. Mostly i run BP or shell stuff, maybe some citgo and 711. But i promise you i crunched the numbers and drove consistently for about 5 weeks straight. 89 octane gave me 2-3 more mpg steadily over 93. Dunno why, but it does.

EPA requires all engines for the US market to run on 87 octane unless they have a separate calibration for the higher octanes. The added cost of two EPA calibration test is usually forgone and they just leave them at a 87 octane. The KS logic will allow higher timing when the higher octane is used or if an alcohol blend is used.
