    Default HyundaiUSA Transmission problems...?

So today I was pulling up to a red light had the car in neutral and was taking my foot off the clutch and the car stalled. When I started it up, there was a loud grinding noise not sure if it was from gears or not but that is my guess. It took at least 5 seconds to start up and once started it was in limp mode and wouldn't go over 1500 rpm, there is also a CEL. Finally 6th try starting it up it was out of limp mode so I drove it to a parking lot and had it towed to Hyundai.

Any ideas what that could be? My guess is transmission.. which was replaced by Hyundai about a month ago.

Awww don't say that... I've also had the "new" tranny installed. Once I pulled up to a stop sign, clutch was engaged, car was in neutral, foot was on brake pedal and then something like a backfire came out of my transmission. Shifts really smooth now but car has no balls.

Not a good sign for the continual issues with the 6MT. Good luck and keep us posted!

Yeah I thought I wasn't going to have anymore problems now that I have the replaced tranny, but I guess not. That sucks to hear about yours too though.. At least it's working now.

Not a good sign at all.. I was pretty mad. But I'll talk to the dealership sometime today and find out anything I can.

called my dealership today and told them what had happened, they are really concerned and since my car is still working there isn't much they can do at the moment. They said if anything happens to call them and they will tow it to them at no cost to me (I live about 70 miles from my dealership). I know through warranty and what not they have to tow at no cost but it's really nice to hear that someone isn't gonna try and screw you later on.

There is no 2009 genesis coupe models. First production model was sold as 2010. I have heard about a lot of bad 2.0 manual transmissions.

All Genesis Coupes manufactured after July 2009 have the "new" transmission that apparently fixed the synchro-mesh issue that would cause difficulty shifting between 2nd and 3rd, 4th and 5th. This did repair the problem in some cases, however it still had issues with sticky shifts. Forwhatever reason, Hyundai did not issue a recall on pre-July 2009 transmissions because it was apparent to them that not all GC 2.0T's were affected.

The "new" transmission other than sticky shifts does appear to be having other issues though, such as the ones mentioned in previous posts. Hyundai is just becoming aware of this problem from what I've been told.

All R-spec models have the "new" transmission.

!! I just had an idea! Since you have your car at the dealership Tsukuba Red, get them to check your differential! Since you were not in gear and neither was I, neither of us have LSD's since we both have base models and we both have "new" transmissions. I don't know why that would cause you to be unable to start the car though... Mine didn't stall, after I felt the lurch I shoved my foot into the clutch.

I don't know if this is a problem with every gen coupe, it barely happened to me yesterday.

I'm gonna call them again tomorrow and talk to them some more.

I talked to them for a few minutes today.. what they told me is that there was no CEL when they had it and that they couldn't find any problems with the car. They said because of my CAI it could have been hydro-locked but I really doubt that, it wasn't flooded or raining too hard where i was driving.

well, I can guarentee mine wasn't hydrolocked. Sounds like they are looking to blame it on aftermarket rather than look for an actual defect. I have a SRI, no lower than OEM box and you don't have a whole lot of moisture below -5c.
Do Genesis's have a fault memory? Like remembering previous errors?
