    Default Manual Boost Control

I just purchased my gc...but my money is tight right now...I obviously have the turbo edition...and was wondering just how a manual boost controller would effect it....I could be wrong but from what I heard u can tighten a valve or something to increase boost...but is that harmful in any way....I do have a heavy foot so I am constantly boosting on a daily basis...? any info on how exactly this works?

The MBC will give you a bit more power but the ECU will still limit you to about 17psi. I had a MBC hooked up for a while but it seemed like power delivery was a little jerky. It would want to go full boost at part throttle sometimes I think...

Adjusting the wastegate actuator can yield similar results for free. A few twists of the actuator arm should give you a couple extra PSI across the board and help wake the car up a bit.

I was a bit doubtful that it would work on our cars because of the more sophisticated ECUs...i was worried it would still do whatever it needed to do to maintain target boost and thus net no gain. So far so good though, car immediately held more boost and gained torque. Unfortunately the dyno guys didnt have the boost sensor hooked up so we could see the actual before and after psi difference, but the dyno definitely speaks. There is definitely a spike in there but i think that is just from us not resetting the ECU and not giving the car anytime to learn. Hopefully once it learns it will smooth it out.

    On to the HowTo

    1. Remove Turbo heat shield (3) 10mm Bolts
    2. Loosen the 10mm Nut that locks the end of the wastegate actuator arm. Back it up to about the end of the threads.
    3. Take off the "C-Clip" with a pliers. Be careful and this will like to fly off while you are taking it off and you dont want to lose this.
    4. Lift the "swivel bracket" off of the wastegate flapper door bracket. This is the part that we will be turning to shorten the overall length of the wastegate actuator arm.
    5. Turn the "swivel bracket" clockwise, as if you were sitting behind the turbo looking at the front of the car. We turned it 2.5 complete turns but i would suggest turning 1.5 times or so and see how the car responds.
    6. Place "Swivel bracket" back on wastegate flapper door bracket.
    7. Replace "C-Clip".
    8. Tighten 10mm Nut.
    9. Replace turbo heat sheild (3) 10mm Bolts.

And on to the results. This is OEM vs. OEM w/ wastegate arm adjustment. Literally taken 10 minutes apart.

wow thanks a lot..i will definatly be doing that tomorrow....I am looking to do some big mods to this car...so in your opinion should I wait until i get a turbo upgrade for a MBC? I heard to even get the upgrade i will need to tune the engine...would i have to tune the ECU? sorry for the questions lol i am new to this

MBC won't be needed if you're getting a bigger turbo or staying with the stock turbo and getting it tuned. With a bigger turbo you'll need to have the car tuned with either PowerAxel, DynoJet CMD, or another tuning solution. In order to safely run the new turbo you'll also need a new front mount intercooler with piping (FMIC) and bigger fuel injectors to supply enough fuel. An intake and exhaust would also be highly recommended to let the new turbo breath easier.

Just a retune using either PowerAxel or DynoJet CMD can give anywhere from 20-50hp and 60-100 ft/lbs of torque. Those gains will put the 2.0T pretty close to the V6 levels. IMO those are also the best bang for the buck upgrades.

You can get pretty good gains without replacing the turbo. What kind of power levels are you looking for?

Sounds, good...an upgrade would be a long ways away as it is...so i would like to make the most of the stock turbo....as far as what kind of power im looking for...like i said id like to get every ounce possible out of this turbo, and deal with an upgrade sometime in the future...exactly how much would it cost to be tuned? and by poweraxel and dynojet..what are they?...i know i sound like i know nothing lol but im used to working with my old car..which was a v8, so all this turbo stuff is new to me lol

No problem, I just switch from Hondas so I was in the same boat about 6 months ago.

PowerAxel offers an ECU reflash that is tuned for about 30hp/60ft/lb gains and can be retuned by an authorized PowerAxel tuner. Cost is $700 without sending your ECU away and I think $400 if you send your ECU in. PowerAxel does offer some features CMD doesn't as in increase rev limiter, speed limiter, and the ability to change about any setting they want. Although it's only adjustable by authorized tuners.

Dynojet CMD is a piggyback tuning system that's almost like a standalone in that it actually controls injector and boost solenoid duty cylces instead of tricking the ECU by altering signals being sent from sensors. With the base 20psi tune you can expect about similar gains as the PowerAxel reflash. The Dynojet CMD will also allow larger injectors to be controlled. Cost is right around $400. One advantage is that if you're familiar with tuning and have access to a wideband you or any tuner can adjust the tune for your car or specific mods.

Genracer.com and Dynojet.com both have info available for the CMD unit.

Beyondredline.com has the PowerAxel Reflash modules.

Thats wierd. Looks like Grimmspeed pulled the pics down for some reason. Talk about bad timing. I'll see if I can find a copy on my computer, not sure if I downloaded it though.

EDIT: Even wierder, it is still up on their website , just not showing on the forums. Strange.

IE temp files to the rescue

EDIT 2: Ok, now it's back on all of them. I'm guessing web hosting issues for Grimm Speed.
